Vice President Frances Johnson
Born in New Zealand Frances worked as an assistant accountant for a daily newspaper when her writing skills came to the fore and she became a successful freelance columnist in her spare time. She retired as a Legal Executive from the legal profession in 1984. Gaining a degree in Herbal Medicine she wrote and lectured extensively on this subject.
In 1988 she and her husband spent three months travelling in Australia and retired to Perth in Western Australia a year later. The writing bug took hold once again in 1994 on their arrival to the Gold Coast so she promptly joined the Writers' Association. Widowed a few months later she opted to stay on the Coast instead of returning to New Zealand. Her work began to appear in the Queensland, New South Wales and Victorian Newspapers along with articles for ‘Writing4success' and other online writers' newsletters. Moderate success in writing competitions spurred her on further. Radio NAG 91.3 and CBAA studios in Sydney have broadcast her stories to interested listeners. She currently pens book reviews for Harper Collins, Queensland Writers, Gold Coast Writers and The Courier Mail. Her books ‘Tales with a Twist,' being published in 2005, and closely followed by ‘Gastronomic Delights' and ‘Herbal Concoctions' in 2007.
A second volume of short stories is due for release late 2008. She is presently working on a full-length crime novel. |

Treasurer - Karen Sattler
Donna Mroz Turcic Publicity
Officer Donna was born in Brantford , Canada , not far from Niagara Falls and the US border. After graduating from Communication Arts (Journalism), she worked in Toronto as a Public Relations Writer for a major telecommunications company. Despite loving her job, her family, and big-city life, Donna's adventurous spirit kicked in and, with only a backpack as companion, she ‘headed west' in 1977. Her travels took her to Canada 's Northwest Territories and The Yukon; Alaska , Hawaii , and Fiji , before six months in New Zealand . Once in Australia , Donna lived and worked in Sydney and Hobart. With her only employment stipulations being ‘legal and close to a coast', Donna's next job was in the remote mining town of Nhulunbuy (aka Gove), located by the Arafura Sea and Gulf of Carpentaria in Arnhem Land , Northern Territory . While there, she met her future husband, Vic, eventually marrying at the Australian Consulate in Bali . In 1980, the two moved to Perth where Donna enjoyed time as Community Information Officer for the City of Fremantle , but it was back to Nhulunbuy in 1981 where she worked as a mining company records officer for many years. Moving to the Gold Coast in 2000, it took time to settle in after living ‘in the bush' for so long (no stoplights in Nhulunbuy, though lots of dingoes, crocodiles, goannas, and wandering water buffalos), but Donna now keeps busy with the GCWA; the Royal Queensland Art Society, and the Southport Runners and Walkers Club. Donna writes and paints whenever and wherever she finds time and space, and looks forward to getting back into swimming. The Coast has definitely become home…until the next big adventure!
